Opportunity House Opening

"The Opportunity House"

A ministry partnership of Midway United Methodist Church and Cooperative Christian Ministry.

"Philip’s Station" – Cooperative Christian Ministry

Philip the evangelist took his ministry to Samaria and ministered to

the people to whom nobody wanted to minister.

Program: A daytime resource center for residents of the homeless shelter and others in the community who are unemployed and underemployed, in need of case management and other services to improve their stability and employability.

Employability Skills, Group Counseling, Educational Activities, GED Preparation, Literacy Training, Job Search, Homework, etc.

Resources: CCM will provide a full time Case Manager to deliver counseling and referral service for individuals participating in the daytime resource center.

CCM will also provide a part time Program Assistant to receive guests, provide screening, deliver orientation and monitor program activities in the building.

Open 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. (Monday – Friday)

Basic Computer Training – LifeBuilder Ministries

Program: LifeBuilder Ministries will provide basic computer training beginning with Introduction to Computers, Keyboarding and Introduction to Microsoft Word.

Resources: LifeBuilder will provide an Instructor to deliver instruction in the various computer classes offered to participants at the daytime resource center. Cabarrus County Job Link will provide computers for a computer lab.

"DRESS FOR SUCCESS" Clothing Closet – ESC/Job Link

Program: The Cabarrus County Job Link Career Center will establish a clothing closet to provide workplace appropriate clothing for men and women who are preparing for job interviews or initial employment.

Resources: Job Link Center staff will provide access to the clothing closet on an appointment basis and provide volunteers to organize and maintain the clothing closet.

New or Gently Used Workplace Appropriate Clothing.

Adult Reading & Comprehension – CLC

Program: The Cabarrus Literacy Council will match students with tutors to provide reading and other basic skills training to adults who participate at the daytime resource center.

Resources: Certified Tutors from the Cabarrus Literacy Council.

Training Room / Meeting Space

Program: Meeting and Training rooms to support a variety of programs.

Resources: Table & Chairs, Whiteboard, Television with DVD Player for Instruction, Teacher Podium.
