Reading+Mentoring 4 Success
Where to meet: Cabarrus County Schools
When: Volunteers will be assigned one or two days of the week that work with their availability and schedule. Mentors will tutor a student 1-2 times per week for 30 minutes. The Mentoring Program is Monday-Thursday.
Time: Patriots STEM Elementary School: 9:40 - 10:10am (M-Th). Wolf Meadow Elementary School: 8:30 - 9:00am & 9:10 - 9:40am (M-Th)
# of Volunteers Needed: Reading+Mentoring 4 Success is a research-based program designed to encourage pleasure reading and support student achievement in literacy. We are looking for Striving Reader Mentors to provide one-on-one mentoring and support to help 1st and 2nd grade students develop the critical reading skills they need to be successful prior to 3rd grade when reading and comprehension become essential for the overall learning process. Children who read proficiently by 3rd grade have better academic outcomes, setting them up for future life and workforce success.
Supplies Needed: None
Skills Needed: None. Teaching or tutoring experience is welcomed, but not necessary.
Tree Trimming at CCM's Mothers & Children Home
Where to meet: 274 Spring St NW in Concord
When: Saturday, August 24th, 2024
Time: 7:30am
# of Volunteers Needed: 15
Supplies Needed: chain saw, long chain saw for high branches, weed eaters, mulch for playground, flower beds and trees
Skills Needed: Power tools
Project Description: Please trim trees and hedges, as well as add mulch to flower beds, tree bases and playground.
Wash and detail CCM food program truck and van
Where to meet: CCM's Crisis Center - 246 Country Club Dr NE
When: Flexible -TBD; Weekday afternoons between 1:30 and 4:00 (between 1:30 and 3:00 on Thursdays) ideal
Time: Flexible
# of Volunteers Needed: 4-8 volunteers needed to wash and vacuum/sweep/mop freight van and small box truck.
Supplies Needed: Hose provided, need to bring buckets, soap, cloths, shop vac, etc.
